Every year, the EGA has various art and community-oriented fundraisers to raise scholarship money for local high school students who are planning to major or minor in visual arts programs in college. The following describes our scholarship winners:
2006 Scholarship Winner Alison Flory
2006 Scholarship Winner Alison Flory
is a graduating senior from Elk Grove High School who was in the photography program at Elk Grove High School for the last four years. At the California State Fair she received a First Place in her sophomore year, and a Third Place in her junior year. In the Pro Image Bay Area Contest she received a Second Place and had an image placed in their annual calendar. She also participated in a group show at Camera Arts in Sacramento entitled “Image Makers.” Four of her pieces
were selected to display in this show. This last year she took a Digital Imaging class that resulted in her receiving two Third Place awards in the Art in Action at Elk Grove High School. She said, “Because I have this foundation, I believe I can easily pick up other mediums. The last four years in photography have been gratifying.” She also sold a piece at a silent auction held at Radiant Life Church to support ministry.
When Alison applied for this scholarship she stated, “I’ve worked hard to achieve excellence in my work and stay at the head of my class. I seek the Elk Grove Artists’ scholarship because I want to advance my studies and refine my skills. I desire to make an impression and a difference on other people in the work that I look forward to creating.” Alison’s goal is to become a photographer or costume designer. She has applied to Sacramento City Community College and
plans to transfer to a 4-year college after receiving her Associate Degree in Photography or Fashion Design.
