2009 Scholarship Winner Megan Stacy
Megan Kristina Stacey is the 2009 student that received our High School Scholarship this year. She plans to go to Loylola Marymount University in Los Angeles and study at the School of Film and Television under the film production major. †She hopes one day to be an established cinematographer and maybe in the distant future be a director. Stacey views film and media arts as the greatest blend of art and technology and pairing such a new medium with the limitless abilities of human creativity can create unimaginable blends of story and images that can truly move a person's spirit. 2008 Scholarship Winner Angela Zanotti
Angela
Zanotti and EGA president, Jane Breslin, are shown at the "Spotlight on
Excellence" dinner and award night. President Breslin was happy to give
Angela the certificate for the $1000 scholarship from Elk Grove Artists.
Our scholarship winner has recently been accepted to the University of
California at Davis and is planning on studying Graphic design and following the
design program at Davis with possible a minor in marketing. Angela is very
interested in graphic design and has had many opportunities at Sheldon High
School to practice her dream. She has designed the posters for the fall play
titled "The Women of Lockerbie" and the spring play titled "Once upon a
Mattress." She also entered other poster competitions, both national and
statewide. Angela loves working with computers and finds that they give a whole
new variety and diversity to her art. She was very excited and grateful to EGA
for the $1000 scholarship!
2006 Scholarship Winner Alison Flory
2006
Scholarship Winner Alison Flory is a graduating
senior from Elk Grove High School who was in the photography program at Elk
Grove High School for the last four years. At the California State Fair
she received a First Place in her sophomore year, and a Third Place in her
junior year. In the Pro Image Bay Area Contest she received a Second Place
and had an image placed in their annual calendar. She also participated in
a group show at Camera Arts in Sacramento entitled “Image Makers.” Four of
her pieces were selected to display in this show. This last year she took
a Digital Imaging class that resulted in her receiving two Third Place awards in
the Art in Action at Elk Grove High School. She said, “Because I have this
foundation, I believe I can easily pick up other mediums. The last four
years in photography have been gratifying.” She also sold a piece at a
silent auction held at Radiant Life Church to support ministry.
When Alison applied for this scholarship she stated, “I’ve worked hard to
achieve excellence in my work and stay at the head of my class. I seek the
Elk Grove Artists’ scholarship because I want to advance my studies and refine
my skills. I desire to make an impression and a difference on other people
in the work that I look forward to creating.” Alison’s goal is to become a
photographer or costume designer. She has applied to Sacramento City
Community College and plans to transfer to a 4-year college after receiving her
Associate Degree in Photography or Fashion Design. She said, “Photography
has helped me develop a sensitivity to shape, color and composition. Also
I believe different mediums in the art world are connected to one another to
create new and fresh ideas.”

2005 Scholarship Winner Andrew Ray
is an AP Studio Art Student from Franklin
High School. He demonstrates a great deal of talent, patience and
dedication in his work. The artwork Andrew produces demonstrates talents
well beyond the typical high school student using an extremely polished artistic
vision that is mature and introspective.
Andrew’s plans are to further study Art and Business at CRC and then
transferring to CSUS. He has one first place in the State Fair young
artists’ exhibit and first place in Franklin High School’s Fine Art and Digital
Art Exhibit.
2005
Scholarship Winner Stephanie Kubo
is a graduating senior from Sheldon High School and participated in their art
programs since her freshman year. She is an extremely talented as a
student and the arts having extensive knowledge of a wide variety of media.
Stephanie’s work is very eye catching with the use of strong lines of a mixture
of color that make her work pop off the page. Stephanie is planning to
attend California School of the Arts this fall majoring in Illustration.
Stephanie had won First Place at the 2004 Sacramento Arts Festival for pastel
drawing and Second Place in the 2004 California State Fair Junior Exhibits and
also won the prestigious Juror’s award in Grand Slam: the Art of Baseball
sponsored by the Rivercats.

2004 Scholarship Winner Yer Vang
Yer
Vang had been enrolled in Advanced Placement art classes during her
sophomore through senior years at Florin High School. She was a
member of Florin High School's Music and Art Students Consortium where she was
very involved in the conventional art of drawing and painting. Yer's goal
is to use her artistic skills to graduate from the Fashion Institute of Design
and Merchandising in San Francisco. As such, she will be the first
generation of her family to attend college.
According to
Florin High School teacher David Cole: "Yer is a dedicated and hard working
student who applies herself and has been diligent and reliable in response to
assignments. She has excelled in the area of art and her portrait work is
very skillful for a person of her age. She is one to get involved and
through her contributions, augment the environment of which she is a part."

2004 Scholarship Winner Vanessa Olson
Vanessa
Olson has been intrigued and fascinated by everything related to art
since she was a child: painting, coloring, drawing, and dreaming.
She took Advanced Placement art classes at Laguna Creek High School (LCHS),
racking up nearly 80 credits of visual and performing arts over the four years.
She won Bank of America's Academic Achievement Award in art, first place in art
shows at LCHS, and "Best Crew member" for designing and painting theater sets
for the drama club. Vanessa plans on continuing her artistic interests at
the University of Santa Cruz.
LCHS Teacher
Kathleen Gamper maintains that "Vanessa is a very bright, capable young woman
with an affable personality and diverse talents, for she also excels in
academics (3.95 grade point average) and is a gifted musician. She has the
promise of a productive scholar and a sensitive, well-grounded woman with
leadership qualities that will inspire others and influence many."
